Textbooks and eBooks
WITCC does everything we can to keep college affordable, which includes reducing the cost for books. Many of the textbooks required for WITCC classes are available as eBooks. You will access your books in three ways:
- Embedded in your course on Canvas. These books are already included in your course and you do not pay for them or for a physical book if you desire. More on logging onto Canvas.
- Available through Cengage Unlimited. You have already paid for Cengage Unlimited with your course. More on Cengage Unlimited.
- If your course is not included in Cengage or does not have an embedded text, physical books are available to purchase or rent (when applicable) through the WITCC bookstore online or on the Sioux City campus.
What is Canvas?
Canvas is a platform in which your course can be found on. You can access you syllabus, embedded textbook if included, and other content your instructor requires for the course. Canvas will be the platform in which you would be able to attend the online section of your course if applicable. More on what Canvas is.
What is Cengage Unlimited?
Cengage is a textbook publisher with their textbook library available in eBook form with a subscription. If your course requires a Cengage text, your subscription is already included in the course with no hassle. Cengage also has study options as well. You will need to log in or create a new user profile in order to obtain your Cengage text. Directions below. More on what Cengage Unlimited is.
How do I find which books I need?
1. Your Schedule on MyWIT
Go to my.witcc.edu.
Log in to MyWIT. More information on logging in to MyWIT.
Click "Print Schedule."
Enter your student ID or social security number.
Select the semester you wish to view.
Refer to the "Comments" section.
CENGAGE UNLIMITED: This means that there is an eBook on Cengage Unlimited.
You do not need to purchase a physical textbook if you desire. You can read these eBooks on and offline. Physical textbooks can be rented from Cengage on their Cengage Unlimited website. Payment for these physical books cannot be paid with Financial Aid. These physical rental books cost $7.99 on your Cengage Unlimited dashboard. Follow the instructions below
for downloading your eBook. A physical copy of the text will not be available on the Bookstore website or in the store. Please note - eBooks through Cengage
Unlimited will not be available until one week prior to class.
EMBEDDED BOOK: This means that there is an eBook within your course and found on Canvas.
You do not need to purchase a physical textbook if you desire. A physical textbook will not be available on the Bookstore website or in the store. Your instructor will provide you
with instructions on obtaining your eBooks through Canvas. Check your
student email for more information. Please note - your course is
not available until the day before class.
ADDITIONAL TEXT REQUIRED: There are multiples books and at least one of them is an eBook embedded in your course. Additional textbooks need to be purchased through the bookstore at bookstore.witcc.edu.
2. WITCC Bookstore Website
Go to bookstore.witcc.edu.
Search by book title or by the course.
Click on "View Materials."
Refer to the "Publisher" section.
No Text Required: This means that there could be an eBook is embedded in the Canvas course. You do not need to purchase a physical textbook if you desire. Your instructor will provide you with instructions on obtaining your eBooks through Canvas. Check your student email for more information. Please note - your course is not available until the day before class.
This course does not require any course materials: This means that there is no phyisical or eBook needed for your course. You instructor will explain what is required for the course in their syllabus or in an email.
Cengage: This means that there is an eBook is available on Cengage Unlimited. You do not need to purchase a physical textbook. The text listed with Cengage Unlimitied on the Bookstore website is the eBook required for the course. Even if a cost is listed for the book, you do not need to pay for the book or the Unlimited code. Follow the instructions below for downloading your eBook. Please note - eBooks through Cengage Unlimited will not be available until one week prior to class.
Texts that do not say any of the above: This means there is a physical book required for the course You will need to purchase or rent (if offed) your textbook.
Access e-books with Cengage Unlimited
Log onto Canvas located on MyWIT.
Select your course from the dashboard.
Click on the Cengage Unlimited link.
Log in with your Cengage account.
If you have never logged in before, follow the directions on creating your Cengage account and complete the registration process.
Using your WIT e-mail is not required but recommended. You will also have to create a password. Do not forget your log in information as you will have to contact Cengage themselves to reset your password.
After logging on or completing registration, you will land on your dashboard.
Add eBook to your dashboard
Use your syllabus or the Bookstore website to find the ISBN of the text you need
Enter the book ISBN in the field with the magnifying glass.
If you are unsure if you have the right one, you can also search by Author or title of the text. If you do this option, make sure that the edition is correct for the text. Edition information is found in your syllabus or on the Bookstore website.
Click on "Add to My Home" which will place the e-book on your dashboard.

PDFs of additional textbooks and physical textbooks can be rented through Cengage Unlimited for $7.99/each.
Access e-books embedded in Canvas course
Your instructor will provide you with instructions on obtaining your eBooks through Canvas. Check your student email for more information.
Buy a Book
Go to bookstore.witcc.edu.
Click Buy Your Books on the left-hand column.
Read the bookstore return policies and click the green button to continue.
Under "Search by Course", click on the arrow drop-down menu and select the term.
Enter the department, course number, and section number.
The section number menu doesn't always show exact section numbers offered for the semester. As long as your section number fits between the two numbers listed, you will select the correct course (Example: for a section number that is 503, 501-599 is the correct one to select as 503 is between 501 and 599).
When all courses have been selected, click 'View Your Materials' to view book list.
Select new or used option.
Click Add to Cart and Continue Checkout.
Select your order update preference should different course materials are required.
First time purchasers click Register Here and create an account.
Returning users sign in to your account.
Enter/review billing address.
Select shipping address or pick-up options.
Select your payment type. To use financial aid, your financial aid package must be fully processed.
Click Submit Order.
You will receive an email when your books have shipped.
Rent a Book
If your course is not a Cengage course or has an embedded text, it is possible to rent selected texts through the Bookstore. To rent a textbook from the WITCC bookstore, come to the bookstore with your class schedule, student ID on the WITCC app or your student ID card, and a credit/debit card. Click here for more information on rental book policies. You can also rent selected texts online. The rental option will show alongside the New and Used options on the check out screen.
